Marigold Bumbleshoot
Halfling Rogue Level 9 (Background: Sage)
Marigold Bumbershoot is a halfling from the little town of Dorkington. She grew up in a house as the youngest of 12 children. As a result, her parents sort of forgot about her and she naturally was pretty stealthy, because with 11 brothers and sisters she had to be in order to eat. Her mother runs her own enterprising business making umbrellas, but with 11 siblings she isn't exactly going to make the will.
As Marigold grew up she realized she wasn't very booksmart, below average if you will. However, she is very charismatic and athletic so she tends to get what she wants through charm or theft. In fact, she passed her degree because she always stole the test answers or went in and changed her grade on her professors' sheets on the way into the main office, for literally every class. She is now is some serious student debt, and because she's not that bright never thought to steal money to pay for her tuition. Marigold is 2'11", is beautiful, has green eyes and long blonde hair that she either wears in a braid or in a high pony-tail. Her clothes are thread bare and patchy, and she wears leather armour. |
Lucien Octavius Darke
Tiefling Hexblade Warlock Level 9 (Background: Noble)
Lucien Darke recently left the sheltered halls of academia, where he held the position of Assistant Deputy Associate Dean for public relations and recruitment at the Ivory Lyceum. His departure was due to an argument between himself and the Lyceum administration over the direction the institution was going - namely taking thousands and thousands of gold pieces from Big Necromancy. Pulling down the Department of Enchantment and and Illusion building to make way for the Strahd Von Zarovich School for Excellence in Necromancy was the final straw, and he decided to make his own way in the world as a freelance magic user and adventurer.
Lucien comes from the Noble house of Darke, an well-respected and wealthy lineage from old (very old) money. He was sent to all of the best wizarding schools, but he spent rather too much time in the taverns and brothels ... so, when it came to practical wizardry examinations he took the easy route - making a pact with an eldritch being for his magical powers rather actually hitting the arcane tomes and studying.

The eldritch being in question was an intelligent and powerful magical weapon; an heirloom of his family. This weapon is a large black-bladed sword, whose midnight surface is decorated with tiny precious stones, to resemble a night's sky. The weapon, Black Frazier, is extremely intelligent, cultured, sarcastic and has a liking for improvised musical compositions. As a wealthy noble, Lucien is always accompanied by his staff of servants, as is befitting his station. Namely, Wilkins his valet, Mrs Miggins his cook/house keeper, and Statham his coach driver. Lucien Darke is always groomed and dressed. His long dark locks and precisely clipped goatee beard frame finely chiseled features, whose only imperfection is a long scar down the side of his face (caused by its impact with a a shark jaw skeleton in the pilot episode). However, this scar only makes his brooding, mysterious good looks even more broodier and mysteriouser. As a tiefling, he has small horns on his head (usually covered with a tricorne hat), green irises with slit, cat-like pupils (usually covered with sun glasses) and a forked tongue. He also has a short tail, which he typically tucks out of sight his tightly-cut leather breeches, although it has an annoying tendency to pop out and wag at inconvenient moments. |
Pepper Beebrush
Gnome Paladin Level 9
Quite possibly the worst thing about being an adventurer, in Pepper’s opinion, is the lack of ice cream parlor accessibility. Well, okay … no. That obviously isn’t the worst thing, That would be the constant threat of death and pain and fear and what not. But people fixate too much on that bit. Hardly any problems of the death, pain, and fear variety are ever fixed by taking them seriously. It’s just life after all, no one is getting out alive. The best thing to do in the face of darkness is to laugh, and eat a lot ice cream.
Pepper grew up the only child of a single mom. What happened to dad, mom never said and Pepper never asked, things were fine just her and her mum. They made it work. That’s not to say it was easy, because it really wasn’t. Pepper’s mom was ill. Had been for … well, most of Pepper’s life really. Sick with what, no one really knew or maybe no one really cared. Prone to bouts of confusion and pain , Pepper’s mom, Rosemary, rarely left the house, or cracked a smile. But Pepper could make her laugh. With things as simple as adopting and training a mouse she had caught in their ramshackle cottage, to antics so wild the city guard would march her home by the scruff of her collar. Her mother would promise the guard to discipline her harshly for whatever trouble she had gotten into now (But mum, I didn’t break the clock tower, I was just taking it apart to see how it worked, I would have put it back together again!). Then the city guard would leave and Rosemary would laugh, and laugh, and tell Pepper not to get caught next time. The cleverer and more mischievous the shenanigans the more mom would laugh. So, Pepper kept getting into mischief, until the puckishness was just… who Pepper was.
Maybe it was because of this plucky and puckish nature that Pepper didn’t drown when the little fishing boat went down in that unseasonable storm. Maybe that was why of all the people on board, Salt picked her to drag from the foaming sea. Or at least that was the opinion of the Monks of Amandine the monks of Amandine formed once they got over their surprise and finding a half-drowned gnomish girl and an over-large otter on their doorstep. Admittedly being monks of Avandra, this assessment might have been slightly biased. Still they had a point. The great otters of legend, chosen creatures of both the trickery goddess Avandra and the storm lord Kord, were thought to be extinct. Some said they had not existed at all, save for in stories. Now one was on their door step with a drenched gnome and a very bossy attitude.
The monks took it as a sign. They healed pepper, and took in both the girl and her ailing mother. Once she was healed they begun to educate Pepper and her new Partner in crime Salt, so that they were ready for their task when the time came… whatever that task might be. Pepper (and Salt) hope that this great task, has something to do with ice-cream.

Calipso
Scourge Assimar Bard Level 9 (Background: Entertainer)
Calipso doesn’t really know where she came from. But that doesn’t mean she has, like, forgotten it entirely. She remembers the sweet melodies of songs. Indistinct words sung by a smiling family, whose faces she can’t recall. She remembers the smell of sea air, mountain breezes, and the taste of fresh fish. She remembers those sweet smells souring. The voices of her childhood suddenly becoming laced with anxiety that grew into outright fear and desperation. She remembers black oily scents choking the air and fouling the water. She remembers sudden absences, and blood. Then there was a boat and a long thirsty journey, both blustery and scorching. That’s the first time she can recall feeling the burning radiant fire, that celestial drive, rise up inside of her. It was so unfair! Important irreplaceable thing things had been taken from her. No… not just her, from so many. She was utterly alone, and starving, singing for crumbs on the streets of a foreign city. There was so much wrong happening, evil that needed to be...
Well it doesn’t matter now, does it? That all was like, in the past. Tides rise and fall dude. You gotta’ like, appreciate a good break when you got one. Just be chill and ride out what the water gives you. Live and let live. You know? Right now she has enough. She has a lute to jam on, waves to surf, and her best bro, Leo. Quiet, responsible Le’dario, who gave her a fish when she was hungry, asked about her songs and became as good as a brother. Yea, life is pretty dope. And that burning radiant light inside her… well it is chill. Most of the time…
Cali as her friends call her, looks like a human at first glance. The only hint of her celestial blood is the almost silvery pallor of her skin and the dual color of her eyes: one a warm gold and the other a piercing aqua blue. Years of being underfed as she scraped by alone on the streets has left her tall frame painfully thin. She wears simple, if slightly slouchy-looking, leather garb and her salt- and sun-damaged brunette hair usually hangs loose and un-styled, past her shoulders. She has a number of tribal and nautical themed tattoos, including a fish on her right shoulder, a match for a tattoo borne by Leo.

Karl S. Berg
Mountain Dwarf Cleric (of beer) Level 9 (Background: Acolyte)
65 years of age, Carl S. Berg spent most of his life cloistered away in a monastery dedicated to the dwarven god Hanseath (the god of war carousing and alcohol - I know, doesn't that every dwarven deity really...?) . He decided that it was time to step out from his sheltered life style of brewin', wrestlin' and drinkin' behind the walls of the monastery, and went out into the world to do missionary work, introducing the good beer to the sober and teetotal.
Carl is stocky, and although his head is a round and smooth as a bowling ball, he has a magnificent, well-waxed and groomed beard with an awe-inspiring set of curled mustaches. This does little to offset the fact that his face looks like the northern end of a southbound mule. His favored weapon is a hammer, with a head that resembles a can of dwarven ale. His spiritual weapon appears in the form of a flung beer barrel.

Le’dario
(Sea) Dragonborn Ranger (Hunter) Level 9 (Background: Soldier)
Yearning to see more of the world after this taste of adventure, Leo left the Bajau when they docked at Aronnax. Though he relished the teaching of these famed sea rangers, Leo’s thirst to explore foreign lands only deepened, and he eventually left his new people at a large port city.
Being from what was regarded as a nasty pirate tribe, Leo, on the shy side to begin with, kept a low profile in the city, stealing his way to get by, taking advantage of the stealthy ranger skills he had learned. It was here where his life took an interesting turn, for this is when Leo met Cali. Her melodic strums on the lute caught his ear from across the market one morning and he was instantly entranced. After several days of listening, Leo brought the hungry girl a fish he’d caught swimming not far from the port. While cooking the fish over the fire on the beach together, he learned her story and found solidarity in that she too had a wonderful ocean life torn away by death and destruction. Leo took a liking to the laid back, nonchalant attitude of Cali, so different from the staunchly loyal and formal Tethynaga and quiet tones of the Bajau he had known. He couldn’t resist the melodious tunes of the lute and jumped when she asked if he had any musical skills, perhaps they could get by more comfortably working together she suggested. While he couldn’t carry nary a tune, Leo had spent his early youth playing with and training small fishes! Together, they created a routine where Leo trained pretty reef fish to dance to Cali’s magical music. And though he wasn’t one to thrive in the spotlight, Leo found joy in this routine and together they were make enough to survive living a simple, yet enjoyable life. That is, until the “incident” in the market where Cali exploded at some racist remarks made towards him and they were forced to split up temporarily to avoid a bounty placed on their heads!
Leo is 28 years old, about 6’6” (2 meters) tall and 247lbs (112kg). He has blue eyes and a slightly elongate neck with a sleek, small scaled face like that of a mosasaur. His jaws are double-hinged like a snake. His limbs are long, thickly muscled ending in webbed claws. He has multiple tattoos, including a fish to match Cali’s and wears a tight golden cowrie necklace, a sign of his foregone royalty. Leo’s body is counter-shaded, creamy white on his underside that flecks into a dark blue on his upperside. He wears light kelp armor, with a ragged cloak overtop. He carries a trident like a staff, with a dagger in his belt and a sawfish rostrum greatclub, small seaturtle shield, and longbow slung over his back. Like all seadragons, Leo can change his color or pattern to match his environment and has excellent smell and vision, both above and below water; he is also a champion swimmer and can echolocate like dolphins underwater. Darhana Sulzbach
Human kelp forest Druid Level 9
Growing up in and around the city of Aronnax it should be no surprise that Darhana Sulzbach spent a lot of her time on the beach. As she got older her time in the ocean only increased until she stopped coming back entirely. Darhana took up the mantle of a Druid with offshore kelp forests as her home and sacred land. She lives deep in the kelp, cultivating the schools of fish and her beloved oyster beds. Even the less cuddly residents fall under her protection so gods help you if you try to kill a shark in her territory, this is until Darhana encountered a foe she couldn't kill. The residence of Aronnax, friends from a former life, have started fishing more and more heavily in Darhana's waters. Worried about the effect of the increasing number of boats pulling fish from her home, Darhana was finally forced out of the waves to find a solution. Druids have never been known for their people skills, conversations with sharks are more her speed, so Darhana enlisted the help of local layer Marmo to help plead her case to Balaenoptera, and if Marmo is on an adventure at the moment, then that's where Darhana will be too. Darhana is a human of average height with a huge amount of dark hair interwoven with bivalves and blue crabs. She has a tenancy towards beachwear that suits her underwater life, accented with seashells and as much of the kelp forest as she can carry with her.
